The High School
To effectively teach the basic fundamentals of knowledge that is necessary to us all while highly respecting the unique talents of the individual is the double objective that seconday school teachers and personnel strive to pursue each day in the School Commission of the Hauts-Cantons. Likewise, we encourage our students to explore their own creativity while strengthening their own sense of social responsibility.
We believe that success in high school requires both a pedagogical framework and dynamic teaching that stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages a greater interest in learning. We are also deeply sensitive to the teenage years and difficulties which might surface at that time. Our personnel co-operate fully with the parents in a preventative and support role where needed.
It was in tribute to Albert L'Heureux, a man from Coaticook who was martyred in China in 1947 for whom the school was named.
In 1966, two schools, Albert L'Heureux and Monseigneur-Durand were formed under one management to form a multipurpose complex for 1600 students at the secondary level. The administration was under the Commission scolaire regionale de l'Estrie.
In 1974, it was seen that a larger high school was needed so a new multi faceted school was built which was given the name, La Frontaliere. This name was chosen by the students to reflect the geographical location of the school and as well to bring reference to the various places and origins of the students. At the time, this school had aproximately 1500 students.
Today this high school known as La Frontaliere offers teaching services to all students in the MRC area of Coaticook. More than 860 young people are enrolled in the general education program from Secondary 1 through Secondary 5 and in the employment-focused programs. In addition, the school offers special courses in intensive English instruction, music concentration, outdoor activities and hockey. The education purpose of the school is based on five basic core values through consultation and communication with the staff, students, parents and members of the community. They are excellence, the respect for life, responsibility, fairness and creativity.
La Frontaliere is known by the dedication, care and supervision offered to the students and offers a wide range of extracurricular activities to challenge the interest of students. In fact, with more than 60 character building activities to choose from in sports, science, music, arts and outdoor activity, there is surely the chance that the young person will become involved with a course of his choice.
Relying on a dynamic staff and supported by other partners in the field of education, La Frontaliere is full of activity and life. To be assured that the future will be one of strength and promise, the student can see this realized by making the most of his skills and talents in this school system.
